Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, a spectacular resort opened in January 2006 and enjoys a superb location where guests can experience the best that Oman has to offer. Behind the resort is the dramatic backdrop of the rugged interior mountains whilst in front are the spectacular blue waters of the Gulf of Oman and the beautiful 500 metres of private beach.

The resort comprises of three separate and distinct hotels; Al Waha, Al Bandar and Al Husn. All guests can enjoy the wide range of leisure facilities o­n offer within the resort, including 3 fresh water swimming pools, a lazy river connecting the pools of Al Waha and Al Bandar, a children’s pool, 5 tennis courts, fitness centre, the Chi Spa with 12 treatment rooms, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. There is also a children’s club, boat excursions and scuba diving (payable locally), an outdoor amphitheatre, Omani Heritage Village and air-conditioned souk.

For dining, guests are spoilt for choice as 19 restaurants and bars across the resort complex offer sumptuous local and international cuisine. A daily shuttle is also provided to downtown Muscat for shopping and to see the delightful sights of the city.

Construction Update

Please note that the Phase II Development next to the Al Husn Hotel has begun. The Phase II Development, which will consist of residential villas and townhouses, is located intwo main areas. The first being above the resort, at the main entrance, with the second area being o­n the headland adjacent to the ‘Al Husn’ hotel. There is also work taking place in the area between the Omani Heritage Village and Ampitheatre, where a shopping area is currently beingdeveloped. Completion dates for both projects are scheduled to be at the end of 2008. The development areas are located away from both ‘Al Waha’ and ‘Al Bandar’ and therefore will not affect clients staying in either of these properties. The development area adjacent to ‘Al Husn’ is located o­n the west side of the hotel and therefore away from the main public areas, restaurants and pool areas. The majority of guest rooms and suites face east or north and o­nly 12 rooms overlook the area and these are currently not being used. The development area is visible when walking down to the ‘Al Husn’ private beach and there can be occasional noise disturbance when o­n the beach, although this is minimal since the heavy construction work has now been completed.

As a result of high tides the sand levels have receded o­n the private beach in 'Al Husn' and the hotel will be carrying out restoration work to replace the beach sand. The resort's main beach between the Al Bandar and Al Waha hotels has not been affected and remains fully operational.
